“Like a cross between The Princess Bride and The Graveyard Book, with a sprinkle of Matchless: A Christmas Story and some other stories that are at the tip of my mind at the moment; the best word that comes to mind to describe this story is gentle, the kind of gentle that happens when you're laying down a child who had fallen asleep in the backseat, mouth slightly open and hair haphazardly covering half their face, into their bed at home-- the sort of gentleness that comes with an undertone of nostalgia for the time when you yourself were once that child. And then to read the author's note at the very end just made it all the more poignant-- ah, that's the word! Poignant, but without the pretention or preciousness.”

hello lauren! in case you’d appreciate affirmation of how wonderful liesl&po is, i dug up my goodreads review from 2017, which feels like many lifetimes ago but still holds true. the spindlers also holds a dear place in my heart. the part about liza turning her toothbrush away from patrick’s is something that i still remember— such a small, precise detail, and completely what anyone would do!

anyhow, just wanted to drop by and encourage you in your continued writing. looking forward to reading your upcoming works! (=
